Date Night at Emberwood - A Little Taste of LA in Bath
Words by Sarah | She Shares
If you haven’t heard of Emberwood yet, let me be the first to say: add it to your list. Tucked inside the St Francis Hotel on Queen Square, this new restaurant feels like a breath of fresh (and slightly smoky) air in Bath’s dining scene.
From the moment we walked in, it felt like we’d been transported somewhere far more glamorous - think a laid-back LA spot with a touch of old-school luxury. The open kitchen is a real showstopper; we watched the chefs working the wood-fired grill, with beautiful cuts of meat on display. It made the whole place feel that bit more alive.
We kicked off the evening perched at the bar with oysters as an aperitif - mine was deep-fried with a dollop of fancy ketchup and honestly, it was divine. The cocktails set the tone too: beautifully mixed and served in the kind of glasses that just make you feel like you’re out out. Little details, but they matter.
The vibe stayed special throughout. The service struck that perfect balance of professional and personable- warm without being overfamiliar. I’m quite particular about restaurant loos (aren’t we all?) and these passed the test with flying colours. They smelt incredible - because let’s be honest, if the bathrooms let you down, the whole vibe is off.
In true ‘treat yourself’ fashion, we decided (last minute) to go all in with the côte de boeuf. One kilo of beautifully cooked beef for two people was ambitious - totally unnecessary but worth it for the experience. The sides tied it all together - generous, delicious and made it feel properly indulgent.
Was it more than we planned to spend? Yes. Would I do it again? Also yes.
It’s not the kind of spot I’d pop into every week, but for a date night that feels special (or a nice dinner with Katja), different, and just a bit luxe, Emberwood is a brilliant new addition to Bath.
Have you been yet? I’d love to hear what you ordered. Thinking I’ll go for the crab rissoto next.
